The Identity Prep girl is all of this and more. She is set up to thrive through a reimagined education designed with her in mind. Imagine the possibilities when we commit ourselves to the educational freedom of nurturing the whole scholar as she discovers exactly who she is as a person, learner, leader, and impactful member of the community.
Identity Preparatory Academy prioritizes humanity in school by providing an academically rigorous education grounded in community, culture, and relationship. We are a forthcoming middle school for girls that is engaging with future scholars and families as we build the school our girls deserve together. The school will serve 4th-8th grade girls in the North Omaha community in small classes, utilizing liberatory practices and an abolitionist education framework. It is time for our girls’ school experience to exemplify their brilliance, joy, and positive identity consciousness.

Identity Preparatory Academy is a reimagining of school as a liberated learning community for middle school girls to learn, lead, and prosper. Learner identity, purpose, interest, leadership, and voice is uplifted as well as the beauty and cultural wealth provided by the people, resources, and history of the community.
By creating a supportive and empowering learning environment with educators and curriculum representative of the student population, we aim to equip our students with the skills, knowledge, and confidence needed to excel academically and thrive personally.
This is a reclaiming of the cultural tradition of our community teaching our children.
Exchanging the low expectations and outcomes in current systems with the promise of harnessing potential through self-discovery and culturally affirming practices, is what is needed to change the educational landscape for the girls in our community.
Young women– aware of who they are– living in purpose to make a difference
Affirmed. Nurtured. Challenged. Impactful.
To provide an academically rigorous, identity-affirming education, grounded in culture, community, and relationship
The Adinkra Symbol, Sankofa, is utilized as the school symbol based on its cultural significance and connection to the school mission, vision, and education model.
Sankofa (pronounced SAHN-koh-fah) is a powerful symbol from the Twi language of Ghana, meaning “to retrieve” or “go back and get.” The representation utilized at Identity Prep is the stylized heart shape and embodies the wisdom of learning from the past to enrich the future. The accompanying proverb, “Se wo were fi na wosankofa a yenkyi,” translates to “It is not wrong to go back for that which you have forgotten,” reminding us of the importance of reflection and cultural heritage in personal growth.
At Identity Preparatory Academy, Sankofa is more than just a symbol; it represents our commitment to helping our students understand and appreciate their history as a foundation for knowing who they are, the beauty of their community, and how to build a bright and successful future. Through this symbol, we encourage the girls to honor their past, embrace its lessons, and use that knowledge to inform their journey forward.
